RemitX is a trademark and trade name of First Global Data Corp. (the “Company). First Global Data Corp. has been in business for more than 26 years. Through relationships based on mutual trust, businesses and consumers have relied on First Global to deliver safe and reliable services. This Privacy Statement applies to the RemitX web site and outlines the Company’s policies for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information collected by the Company on this web site. It is provided in order that you can make informed choices about how your personal information is collected, used and disclosed. Please note that a separate Privacy Policy applies for personal information collected at Agent locations and at places not including this web site.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
In order for RemitX to offer its services it must collect personal information from consumers and businesses. The Company collects personal information including but not limited to: name, address, telephone number, mobile number, email address, bank account, checking account, credit or debit card and identification information. The Company collects this information to provide our services and also to remain compliant to regulatory and other requirements, to ensure proper payment to the designated recipient of funds and other goods or services, to prevent fraud, to collect payments due to the Company, and for internal marketing use. This information is obtained by the company in a variety of ways including but not limited to:
- Directly from surveys, contests, questionnaires, applications, and other materials submitted to us by consumers online;
- From consumers in the context of their transactions and interaction with RemitX;
- From activity on our web sites (including the use of "cookies", discussed below);
- From third-party sources, such as our business partners and customers, government agencies, consumer reporting agencies and financial institutions.
A "cookie" is a text file which may be placed on the hard drive of a user’s computer by a Company web server and is used to notify the servers who you are when you return to our web site and to gather other information that may be used or that the Company may permit others to use from time to time as otherwise provided in this Privacy Statement. Through the use of commercially available software programs, computer users are able to block, delete and prevent the use of cookies.
Information is collected from the Company’s business customers who use Company services for payroll and bill payment purposes in order to ensure that the proper payor or account is credited when a payment is made. The Company also obtains this and other information with the individual's consent or as permitted by law; from government agencies, consumer reporting agencies and financial institutions in an effort to prevent fraud.
The Company collects and uses consumer information every day to ensure fast and accurate processing of money transfers and other transactions. Consumer information is collected from, and on behalf of, the Company’s business customers to ensure that payments are made to the proper account. For transactions made on credit, the Company requires your consent to use your personal information to generate an internal credit score for you before your transactions can be processed. RemitX may use personal information collected to identify consumers who may be interested in other opportunities and the Company may offer these opportunities to consumers thorough telemarketing, direct mail, email, SMS (wireless devices) and other marketing efforts.
In the course of providing services to you, your personal information may be transferred to affiliated and non-affiliated companies that process transactions or provide services on behalf of RemitX. These affiliated and non-affiliated companies may be involved in activities such as: assisting the Company to process transactions, distribute marketing materials, analyse information for marketing purposes, respond to inquiries from law enforcement agencies, perform research, and companies which assist the Company to ensure proper performance of Company services Third parties engaged by the Company are subject to the Company’s contractual requirements in their handling of personal information.
Disclosure of Personal Information
RemitX may disclose personal information to companies affiliated with RemitX and to companies or other parties not affiliated with RemitX. Non-affiliated companies include but are not limited to entities with which the Company has joint marketing agreements, database management companies and third parties that facilitate the processing of transactions. Many of these disclosures benefit consumers in that they serve to minimize fraud and they permit goods and services to be offered to consumers at attractive rates. Disclosures may include identity and identification information, such as name, address and contact information, and may also include transaction history information, such as frequency of use of Company services and transaction amounts.
Potential recipients of such personal information include but are not limited to financial institutions, such as banks, credit unions, credit card companies, ACH and other transaction processors, insurance companies and brokerage houses, retailers, and direct marketers.
The Company will disclose information to government agencies as required by law. In the event of a sale or reorganisation of all or part of the Company, personal information may be disclosed to relevant third parties in the course of structuring and finalising the sale or reorganisation.
It is possible that some recipients of personal information may operate in foreign countries that do not have data protection laws as comprehensive as the laws in Canada. All third party organisations are subject to Company contractual requirements in their handling of personal information.
Opting Out and Consent
In all instances when you provide the Company with your personal information, it is assumed that you consent to its collection, use and disclosure in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The Company may, in certain circumstances, request your consent to the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information.
You have the right to opt-out, or not provide the Company your approval to use or disclose your personal information. There may be circumstances whereby in order to use the Company services you do not have an option to opt-out, such as where disclosure is necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction requested by you or processed for your benefit. You may also withdraw your consent at any time, as long as you give reasonable notice of withdrawal and subject to legal and contractual restrictions. For example, consent may not be withdrawn if it relates to processing, collection or reporting of credit information after credit has been granted. In addition, in some instances, the Company may be permitted or required by law to collect, use or disclose your personal information without your consent, such as for collecting a debt, for national security, or other such purposes.
If you wish to opt out of uses or disclosures of your personal information which allow the Company, our affiliates and third parties to offer products and services which may be of interest to you, simply check the appropriate box where available on-line and click on "submit" to convey your choice during the registration or transaction process, or call the customer service number below. You always have the right to change your mind regarding the receipt of marketing materials. If you do not opt out, the Company assumes that you agree for RemitX to use your personal information to determine what goods and services you may be interested in, offer you goods and services that the Company determines may meet your needs, disclose your personal information to third parties as outlined in this Privacy Policy, and for the other purposes described herein.
Access To And Correction of Personal Information
RemitX establishes, retains, maintains and constantly updates a file of personal information for each consumer and customer. Your registration information is accessible by logging onto the RemitX web site at www.remitx.com and by logging into your account. You have the right to access your file and to challenge or request correction of any erroneous or out-of-date personal information. In some instances, the Company may not be able to grant consumers access to their personal information, for example, if doing so would reveal confidential commercial information or would threaten the security of another individual. You are able to access your personal information or request correction of factual errors by sending the company a written request to do so. The Company reserves the right to independently verify requests for changes to personal information. To protect your privacy and security, the Company will take reasonable steps required to verify your identity before making corrections. The company reserves the right to charge a service fee for providing you with any information in connection with your request.
Only those employees, consultants, and agents of RemitX and its affiliates who require access to your personal information in the course of their business duties shall have access to your file. Those employees, consultants, and agents are bound to RemitX’s privacy policies, and may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
Retention of Personal Information and Security
RemitX utilizes commercially available security measures to guard against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction of personal information. Measures may include, encryption, physical access security and other appropriate technologies.
RemitX destroys, erases or renders anonymous personal information that is no longer required. Any opt-out elections you may have made in respect of personal information will also be destroyed, erased or rendered anonymous. After the removal of your information from Company records, you must exercise your right to opt out again if you provide the Company with your personal information again.
Minors
The RemitX web site and service are not intended for use by minors. The Company does not collect and retain information it knows were provided by those under the age of majority.

The RemitX web site or links from the RemitX web site may direct consumers to third party web sites. RemitX is not responsible or liable in any way for the Privacy practices and policies of these third party web sites.
Accountability
RemitX takes privacy of information very seriously and has appointed a Compliance Officer whose role includes the company wide administration of the Privacy Policy.
